THE WEATHER WE LEFT BEHIND

Friday, November 28, 2008

It's Friday the day after Thanksgiving and Blue Boy had a scheduled trip to Eby Ford in Goshen for a pre-trip checkout. I just wanted them to tell me we were good to go for the trip but they found $1,000.00 in problems. I need to take the RV back on Monday for the repairs and hope the parts arrive in time to let us leave as planned on Wednesday. I'm confident the repairs will be done on time, just hope it does not delyay our "loading up" and leaving Wednesday morning.

Getting Anxious to Go

This winter our adventure destination is Mexico. Matazlan to be exact.

Last year we were on the border in Lukeville, AZ ready to cross over and make out first trip (with the motor home) into Mexico and travel to Puerto Penasco - aka Rocky Point.
However, we "chickened out" and decided we were not ready (too fearful) to go - dog kidnappings, police looking for bribes, bandits, crowded rv parks, etc. We got so full of the bad publicity, we lost site of all the good.

Now, having another year to research as much information as I can mentally handle, we are going to "just go". To guarantee that we do, I paid in advance for a 4 week stay in Mazatlan, on the ocean! Our intent after crossing the border is to leisurely work our way down to Mazatlan in about 7 days - stopping for 1-3 nights at several ocean-front rv parks. Arriving in Mazatlan on February 1st and staying the entire month.

After that time we have options that may include staying put for a while longer, travel a little further South to the Puerto Vallarta area to research a good spot for next years trip, or head back north from Mazatlan and revisit our favorite spot(s) from the trip down - only stay longer than a night or two. That would allow time to explore inland a little, like Copper Canyon or Alamos, both reported to be "must sees".

As in past trips, it doesn't matter what we plan or think we might do, we always change it. But the month in Mazatlan is paid for. We'll be there!

We leave home about December 3rd, first destination is Ft. Myers Beach, Florida for a two week family get-together. But on our way down there we have a 5 night stay reserved at Ft. DeSoto Park, a Pinellas County Park, on the Gulf in St. Petersburg. Impossible to get space at such a jewel on the water, but we found a weeknight opening in December (Sunday thru Thursday). After that is was booked solid into April. The bonus is they have a beach for dogs!
