THE WEATHER WE LEFT BEHIND

Buenas Tardes,

Here is a link to a video of my ultralite flight-see of Mazatlan yesterday. It's on the home page of the blog down the left side under "videos", but I don't know if anyone has clicked on any of them because no one has commented about them yet. They're not great, just interesting little "snippets" of our trip. So here it is Jim's Flight over Mazatlan and Stone Island.

And below are the still pictures from yesterday.

But before you get to see the pictures, you have to read what we did today. Small price to pay, OK!

We once again drove to the embarcadero and took the panga over to the city. I wanted real coffee and the dogs were out of "goodies". Great excuse to go and have lunch at a Mazatlan palapa restaurant on the beach between Old Mazatlan Central and the Zona Dorada and drink a few cerveza's. We got a pulmonia to the hotel where Ellen and Patty are going to stay so she could see exactly where it's located. The driver didn't know exactly where we wanted to go but we got close enough to get out and walk the rest of the way.

That accomplished, we started to walk to the restaurant but soon realized it was too far given the time we had available (we are on a very tight schedule with all our social commitments). Great hotel by the way - the Casa Lucila.

Got another pulmonia to the restaurant. Lunch was OK, but nothing special other than being on the Pacific Ocean. The beer was cold! The service was good. Too many street vendors allowed to enter the business and interupt our meal. After lunch, one more pulmonia to the Mega Store (a competitor of Wal-Mart) to get a few necessities (coffee and dog bones). And finally yet another pulmonia back to the embarcadero for the water taxi back to Stone Island.

We are settling into our little part of Mazatlan more each day. I keep saying it, but lots of nice people around, both locals and other RV'ers. And we keep running into people we have met at other RV parks on our way down here. Small world! It's like a community of travelrs.

Day is done, bugs are bitting, all four of us are happy to be inside Blue Boy with a cool ocean breeze blowing and the constant sound of waves crashing onto shore. Ellen and I both are on computers, the dogs are sleeping, and with no TV we have only each others company for entertainment again tonight. My drink glass is full. LIFE IS GOOD!

Getting strapped in

Mazatlan from the air. Old Mazatlan is in the lower half of the picture, the newer and more upscale area known as the Golden Zone is at the top of the picture to the right of the three islands in the distance. The area that follows the curve in the shoreline is the Malecon - the parade route for the Carnaval.

Mazatlan at the top of the picture, the harbor in the middle, and the Stone Island side at the bottom

I got these pictures all out of order, but this is the beach in front of our RV site with me "taking off'

Ready to fly. The pilot sure looks happy! He just got $50.00 American from me!

Seat belt check

Beautiful City!

Good perspective of where we are located. The city of Mazatlan is left, the harbor we cross to get there is in the middle, and Stone Island is right. Straight down from the far right edge of the white part of the wing is where our RV park is located. Most of the pictures I have posted looking at the sunset have the two "islands" bracketed in the frame. In my pictures they look side by side. In reality as seen here one is the point of Stone Island and one is the point of the city of Mazatlan where the light house sits.

The City

The Isle de la Piedra (Stone Island). Actually not an island, but a penensula. But from Mazatlan it looks like an island.

Ready to land back on the beach.

Our RV park from the air. If you click on the picture to make it bigger you can identify Blue Boy as the motor home at the most extreme right in the picture.

Sunrise this morning. Nothing to get excited about but I've shown too many sunsets. Just wanted to show the other side of the horizon.
