THE WEATHER WE LEFT BEHIND

Saturday, February 7, 2009

Looks like things have really warmed up back home. That's great!
Here, today, things started off relatively "cool" due to a little cloud cover and a good ocean breeze.

By mid afternoon, however, the breeze was gone and so was the light cloud cover and it got HOT!

We did just minor "stuff' today. No self-operated laundries here so Ellen either does it by hand in my car wash bucket or we take it into town to a laundry service. We took dark laundry into town to be done, but Ellen still will not let anyone do the white stuff. Finding the laundry was a trip all in itself because the streets are not named, the map is not accurate, and the service has no signage to tell you "you are here"! But like everything else in Mexico, we got to where we wanted to go, managed to communicate what we wanted done, and got back home safe and sound. No problem! Dodged horses in the road, a lot of horse shit, chickens strutting around, barefoot kids running everywhere, dogs lying in the street or roaming around untended - most of which looked like dead dogs walking-, muddy roads, pigs, and more. Two vehicles of any kind can barely get by each other when they meet in the road. But, as said before, you won't find more friendly, helpful people.

Bought decaf coffee by mistake the other day while at Sam's so no buzz in the morning brew. Looked for real coffee here on the Island while in town to drop off the laundry, but none to be found! I thought Mexico was Juan Valdiz territory! We'll get some when we take the panga to the city tomorrow.

We had heard great reviews about a "palapa" restaurant (that's an open air beach restaurant) just a few "doors" down from the RV park. It's always lookd closed to us, and like everyting else here on the Island, by 5 or 6 pm everything is. So we never had a chance to try it until today when we stopped by there after dropping off the laundry this afternoon. Very good food, great Margaratia's when an extra shot of tequila is added, fantastic "on the beach" setting, and a very pleasant "trying to speak English" waiter. Ellen got a "tatoo" while waiting for lunch to be served and ordered a set of earrings for delivery tomorrow if the "vendor" can get her what she wants.

My treat was there is an ultra-light plane pilot who gives rides from the beach and we have watched him for a week now take passengers on a 15-20 minute flight to see Mazatlan from the air. He was available as we walked back to the RV after lunch and I took the ride. WOW! Mazatlan is a beautiful city after all. Unbelieveable as seen from the air! Of course the ride was too short, but very worth while to do once. One can not possibably know Mazatlan unless it is seen from the air! Ellen will go up next week.

Our lunch was huge with several drinks each, so no dinner tonight. We sat with some of the "high end" RV'ers who have ocean front sites and watched the sun go down. The "no-see-ums" were bad so I came back to the RV. Ellen is still out there somewhere. Probably devoured by now.

I'll put pictures and a video of my flight-see today on the blog tomorrow.

Adios

Hola Jim,Ellen,Isabelle&Gracie,
Glad things are working out for you in Mazatlan. We are enjoying life in lo de Marcos, very laid back compared to Maz. The RV parks are quite full one, of the beach sites might have a space though. The weather is very muggy and the water nice and warm, hope you guys make it down here. We e will be heading north in a few days, and will stop in Maz and then on to Mr.Morows before heading into San Carlos. We enjoy reading your blog, keep up the good work.
Hope to cross paths again. tu nuevo amigos, Becky and Lou
