THE WEATHER WE LEFT BEHIND

Sunday, February 1, 2009

Just finished watching Super Bowl. Great game! I watched it on a local (Spanish) station. Could not understand a single word so I muted the sound. But several neighbors have Star Choice Canadian Satellite TV service which works down here and they had their tv's outside so everyone could watch and hear. I did not watch the game at their RV's, but I could hear the English soundtrack while watching the Spanish broadcast.

Ellen has a bit of a "bug" today so we did not leave the park. She actually never got out of bed. We partied last night but that is not what has her down. Slight fever and stomach cramps so maybe she got a little "Mexican" something. I stayed busy and did not mind having the whole day to do my "stuff".

Tomorrow morning we take the panga (water taxi) to the city across the harbor to meet up with Mazatlan Lee and hopefully Ellen will be ready to travel. If not, I'll go without her. There is no bank or ATM here on the Island and I am out of Pesos.

So basically nothing to report for today. Just another warm (hot), sunny day with cool ocean breezes. I uploaded pictures while watching the game. Hope you enjoy them. Tomorrow I should get a lot of cool pictures of Mazatlan.

Road going to Celestino RV Park, our two night stop before Mazatlan

This was our Celestino exit from the toll road

This picture is out of place but I'm not going to move it. It's a shot from the end of the 8.2 mile gravel road to Tres Amigo RV park with the Southern tip of Mazatlan in the distance. The harbor is actually between the dirt road you see and the hill in the distance.

Views seen on the 8.2 mile dirt road from the toll road South of Mazatlan to Tres Amigos RV

Again, my pictures did not get placed in proper order, but????
This is what we see from our site. The fence is security around the camp. Security not from a safety standpoint, but just to keep beach walkers and others from bothering us campers.
Ellen with the girls the day we arrived here. The pups just could not wait to get to the water. But with the beach being so crowded it was a little difficult to find them space to dip their paws.
Our setup with the girls staying in the shade. They know how to keep cool. The breeze is cool, but the sun is too strong. In the sun - it's very hot, in the shade - it's nice and cool.

The CR-V took a dust beating getting here and so did Blue Boy. A man from Mazatlan and his son were washing RV's the day we arrived so as I stated earlier I paid them to wash the RV. But I washed the CR-V yesterday myself. It was BAD! With no paved roads here it does not stand a chance to stay clean.
Arrival at Tres Amigos. Warren, the park manager, greeted us and took us to our site.
A view out to the ocean from the harbor seperating Stone Island from Mazatlan

Ellen has perfected the making of Margaritas. Fresh lime juice, fresh orange juice, a little Perrier, and a lot of Tequila and Triple Sec. Also in the picture is a bowl of guacaomole (Ellen will correct the spelling tomorrow) made with fresh produce bought from the local farmers that come into the park daily. She is getting ready to add more hot sauce. Could have been her undoing!

Our walk in the heat of the day yesterday required a stop for cooling refreshment.

This is just a picture of a small locally owned hotel with a restaurant out front on the beach. We ate there our first night, Friday, and went back yesterday to take a picture.

Lot's of horses on the beach. Transportation for the locals as seen here, and for tourist rides when the cruise ships are in port

Just a local home on our trip into town for necessities.
City street scene

Looking out to the water from the bar we visited to get a "cool one" after walking around the area yesterday

Local homes I took a picture of while Ellen was in the grocery for tequila, beer, and chips. After I took this picture a truck pulled up to the blue house on the right and eight people went inside - Mom, Dad, and kids!

I took a picture of the grocery from the car while Ellen was inside shopping

Main street here in the "city".

Picture of a stone (we are on Stone Island) from the beach

Picture of the area I took from the top of the motor home

Sunrise this morning. Obviously not too early as the sun is up pretty far, but look at the view!

This is a picture standing at the water taxi departure point from the RV park looking across the harbor at Mazatlan. It's just the very Southern tip of Mazatlan so it does not look like much. The bulk of Mazatlan is up and to the right of the "mound".

Beach scene looking from RV park towards the North and Mazatlan. The little mound on the left side of the picture is the one mentioned above.
